Why MMA
MMA repair mortar vs epoxy: key differences
Boydur® M12 MMA repair mortar outperforms epoxy systems in rapid-curing industrial floor repair applications, especially at low temperatures and in time-critical environments such as airports, logistics hubs, and seaport terminals.
MMA vs Epoxy — Performance Comparison
✅ Boydur M12 — MMA Mortar
- Traffic-ready in ~60 minutes at 20°C
- Applies at temperatures down to −10°C
- No downtime for critical operations
- Resistant to thermal cycling & shock
- Year-round indoor & outdoor use
❌ Typical Epoxy System
- Requires 24+ hours to cure
- Fails or becomes brittle below +5°C
- Long operational downtime
- Poor thermal cycling resistance
- Limited to controlled environments
Application
How to apply Boydur® M12 MMA repair mortar
Follow these five steps to correctly apply Boydur® M12 methyl methacrylate repair mortar for industrial floor repair, anchoring, or floor topping applications.
Surface preparation
Clean the repair area thoroughly. Remove all loose material, dust, oil, and contamination. The surface must be dry and structurally sound. Mechanical preparation — grinding or sandblasting — is recommended for best adhesion of MMA mortar.
Priming
Apply a compatible MMA primer to the prepared surface where required. Allow primer to become tacky before applying mortar — typically 10–20 minutes depending on ambient temperature.
Mixing
Add 1.5% Part B catalyst into Part A resin. Mix mechanically for approximately 3 minutes until a homogeneous, flowable mortar is achieved. Do not mix by hand.
Application
Apply mixed Boydur® M12 MMA mortar within the working time of approximately 25 minutes at 20°C. Spread evenly and compact to required thickness — minimum 4–5 mm for floor repair and topping applications.
Curing
At 20°C, Boydur® M12 is ready for pedestrian traffic in approximately 45–60 minutes and vehicle traffic in approximately 60 minutes. At lower temperatures, allow additional curing time. At −10°C, full cure takes approximately 2–3 hours.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions — Boydur M12 specifications
Common technical questions about Boydur® M12 MMA repair mortar specifications, curing times, and application conditions.
How fast does Boydur M12 MMA mortar cure?
At 20°C, Boydur M12 is traffic-ready in approximately 60 minutes. Working time is ~25 minutes. At −10°C, full cure takes approximately 2–3 hours. This rapid curing makes it ideal for airport runways, logistics floors, and any application where downtime must be minimized.
What temperature range can Boydur M12 be applied in?
Boydur M12 MMA repair mortar can be applied between −10°C and +40°C — making it suitable for year-round use both indoors and outdoors. Unlike epoxy systems that fail or become brittle below +5°C, MMA technology maintains performance at sub-zero temperatures.
How is Boydur M12 MMA mortar different from epoxy?
Epoxy repair mortars require 24+ hours to cure and typically fail below +5°C. Boydur M12 methyl methacrylate mortar cures in ~60 minutes and performs reliably at −10°C. MMA also offers better resistance to thermal cycling and mechanical shock — critical for heavy-traffic industrial environments.
What is the minimum application thickness for Boydur M12?
Minimum 4–5 mm for floor repair and topping applications. For anchoring applications, thickness depends on project-specific engineering requirements. Contact Boytorun Kimya for project-specific guidance.
Is Boydur M12 suitable for outdoor and airport use?
Yes. Boydur M12 is UV-resistant and withstands freeze-thaw cycles and wide temperature fluctuations. It has been used in airports, seaport terminals, bridge decks, and outdoor logistics areas. Reference projects include DHM Adana Airport and Gölcük Naval Shipyard.
What is the shelf life of Boydur M12?
12 months when stored unopened at approximately 20°C in a dry, dark location. Part A and Part B must be stored together as a set.
What are the Boydur M12 compressive and flexural strength values?
Boydur M12 specifications: compressive strength ~34 N/mm², flexural strength ~24 N/mm², ball pressure strength 41 N/mm², elastic modulus 4,350 N/mm², surface hardness Shore D ≥ 75. These values make it one of the strongest rapid-curing MMA repair mortars available.
