Surface Preparation Tips for Boydur M12 Floor Mortar

Before application, ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and mechanically abraded. This maximizes adhesion and leverages Boydur® M12’s full technical capabilities.

Introduction

Welcome to the Boydur M12 MMA Floor Mortar FAQ section. Here you’ll find detailed answers about 60 minutes curing, long-term performance and best practices for using Boydur® M12 in all environments.

How long after applying Boydur M12 can we open our area to traffic?

Boydur M12 is a methyl methacrylate (MMA) based product. For this reason, you can open the area to traffic after an average of 60 minutes after application. This time may be a few minutes less or more depending on the air temperature.

Is Boydur M12 UV Resistant?

Yes. All Methyl methacrylate (MMA) based chemicals are 100% resistant to UV rays and atmospheric conditions. It can be used outdoors in any color. Does not yellow. No deformation.

How robust is the Boydur M12 Rapid Mortar?

One hour after we are applied, we pass a passenger plane over it. In addition, we can easily say that it is unrivaled in terms of chemical resistance.

If it fails or is applied incorrectly, do we have to disassemble it and redo it?

No! Boydur M12 can be repaired without disassembling a malfunction. Level differences and deformations can be sanded.

In which colors is Boydur M12 MMA Floor Mortar produced?

Please review our color catalogue. It can be produced in any color in accordance with RAL standards. The colors we use in our color catalog are industrial RAL colors. These pigments are much more durable on the ground than other pigments.

What is the correct mixing ratio and working time for Boydur® M12?

Boydur® M12 is a true two-component system: Part A (MMA resin) and Part B (peroxide hardener). Mix precisely at 1:1 by weight for 2 – 3 minutes until a uniform color and consistency appear. The mixed mortar has a pot life (working time) of about 10–15 minutes at 20 °C.

What are the ideal environmental conditions for application?

Apply Boydur® M12 when air and substrate temperatures range from 5 °C to 30 °C, with relative humidity below 80 %. Avoid application in direct rain or excessive wind. In colder or hotter climates, use hot-box or chilled mixing to maintain optimal resin temperature.

Can I texture or finish the surface after troweling?

Yes. For slip resistance, broadcast silica sand or use a non-slip roller immediately after troweling. To achieve a smooth, glossy finish, apply a final light roller pass or press a smooth trowel finish before the material skins.

How do I maintain a Boydur® M12 floor over time?

Routine cleaning with pH-neutral detergents preserves the surface. Avoid strong acids or alkalis. Inspect quarterly for damage; minor scratches or wear can be repaired with a thin topcoat of freshly mixed Boydur® M12.

Can Boydur® M12 be overlaid on existing epoxy or cementitious toppings?

Yes, if the existing topping is sound, clean, and properly prepared. Mechanically profile the surface to an ICRI CSP –3 or higher. Prime with Boydur® M12 diluted 10 % with MMA monomer, then broadcast sand before applying the full mortar system.

What warranty and support do you offer?

Boytorun Kimya provides a 1-3 year limited warranty against material defects. Our technical team offers on-site consultation, mixing and application training, and phone support to ensure success on every project.

Safety and Handling

Always wear nitrile gloves, safety goggles, and an organic-vapor respirator when mixing and applying MMA-based products. Ensure proper ventilation in enclosed spaces by using exhaust fans or open windows. In case of skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water; if resin contacts eyes, rinse for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention. Keep a spill kit and fire extinguisher nearby, as MMA monomer is flammable and can irritate skin and mucous membranes.

Maintenance and Longevity

After the initial 60-minute cure, perform routine inspections to spot any surface wear or damage. Clean the floor regularly with pH-neutral detergents and soft-bristle brushes or microfiber mops to remove dirt and debris without abrading the MMA surface. Avoid using harsh acids, alkalis, or solvent-based cleaners, as they can degrade the polymer matrix over time. For scuffs or light surface scratches, simply apply a fresh thin topcoat of Boydur® M12 mixed at the standard 1:1 ratio, then allow a 60-minute cure. With these simple practices, your Boydur® M12 installation will retain its appearance, slip resistance, and mechanical strength for years to come.
